We form study groups according to local need and interest. These can focus on a particular psychodynamic topic, or on issues challenging the mental health field. They can be journal clubs or book clubs, or they can be “miracle groups” like the one hosted by Clara Thompson, MD in the 1930s, where clinicians discussed their most challenging and troubling clinical situations, and found that those treatments under discussion turned around and became gratifying success stories, so they named themselves “The Miracle Club.”
